During a press visit to the set of GMA News TV’s public affairs program Personalan, host Jean Garcia revealed to the members of the press that hosting the said advocacy program is one of her favorites. She says that she  looks  forward to it every week. Even if it’s only once a week it is still exciting nonetheless.

Ali Sotto who used to be the program’s host resigned last March, Jean has been hosting Personalan alternatively with singer-actress Jolina Magdangal-Escueta.

According to Jean she  did not hesitate and accepted the post vacated by Sotto when it was offered to her. She also denies talks and intrigues that she accepted the show because of the money.

Every episode of Personalan is a tense – although, not necessarily violent — meeting of two erring parties. With the help of experts in family/life development and celebrity advisors called “celebrity uzi,” the show tries to bridge the gap between the two parties and reconcile their differences.

Considering the show’s format, Jean is inevitably “exposed” to the emotional burdens of her guests. Does this put a lot of stress on her? She says that she likes the feeling that she was able to help and learns something new from each episode.

‘Gabay na Buhay’ is a segment of the show wherein an expert helps the erring party reach a compromise by using workshop-style activities like breaking a ceramic plate and gluing the pieces back together to show, for example, how hard a task it is to regain the trust of a partner, among others.

180 Microcinema Film Festival is an online short film festival that challenged filmmakers to tell a compelling story in just three minutes while engaging an online audience. These filmmakers showcased their 180-second entries on the festival site http://180cinema.net, and shared by viewers through various social media platforms.

42 festival film entries had a tight competition with one another – and with the extended voting period for the Audience Choice award, viewers still got a chance to select and share their favorite films. In addition to these votes, viewers were also free to leave their comments on the films on the festival website.

“Munting Alay” (A Small Offering) by a Filipino, Jose Chavez was awarded as the 2012 Narrative Cycle Audience Choice Winner. The 2012 Jury’s Choice Winner was “Table 7″ by Marko Slavnic & Andrew McDonald. Each of the two winners received a prize worth USD 15,000 in cash and a transmedia development deal.  This amount will be used as the filmmaker’s pitch fund for a 30-part Serial Cinema Project, which will have the winning filmmaker create a movie of 30 180-second parts, with one installment posted on the website each day; the culmination of this project will then be a 90-minute full feature-length film also viewable online.

FOR Coach Jim Saret, less is truly more.

The US-educated sports-medicine expert, athletic-training specialist and Immuvit Brand Spokesperson certainly knows a thing or two about “maximizing losses.” During the first season of The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition, Coach Jim rose to national prominence as his unique physical regimen resulted in consistent weight loss by his Blue team resulting in victories in the team challenges as well as winning it all for an individual team member.

Now Coach Jim is tackling another similar but equally herculean challenge; stopping aging or at least its most obvious effects on its tracks. It may sound like a broken record but for the well-being coach, age is really just a number. Just as much as he believes that the key to physical fitness is less weight, he also subscribes to the theory that the key to aging less is actually living more.

“One’s chronological age does not necessarily equal one’s fitness age,” he pointed out. “I’ve met people that are 21 years old chronologically but are so sedentary their fitness age is that of a 40 year old. I’ve also met 40 plus year old people that have the fitness age of a 25 year old.”

And “fitness age” according to the former national tennis player depends on the kind of physical activity one engages in. Having successfully trained and conditioned world-renowned athletes like Shaquille O’ Neal, Wayne Gretzky and Steve Nash, among many others, Coach Jim’s philosophy when it comes to training people is that “everybody is an athlete or has an athlete inside him or her.”

Holistic approach

For those in their 40s and 50s, Coach Jim recommends “low-impact sports like swimming, biking and golf that don’t cause a lot of stress on the bones, joints, ligaments and muscle.”

“For exercises they can use the elliptical machine, stationary bicycle, rowing and strength training. The Metafit Workout is perfect for that age as they are non-impact and can be done in a short time thus lessening the amount of stress the body receives,” he continues. “Outside taking a sport or physical activity, yoga and pilates are very helpful. Long nature walks or hiking are awesome for both the mind and body. Dipping in a pool, playing chess, ta-chi or any other mentally relaxing activities are great too.”

As Coach Jim recognizes that daily stress mostly caused by work contributes heavily to how fast a person ages, he understands the need to take a holistic approach in maintaining not only a sound mind and body but also a healthy diet.

“Stress can affect an individual even more if their body is physically weak and have low energy levels,” he cautions. “Regular exercise, adequate nutrition and a good multivitamin supplement like Immuvit can help everyone manage or even eliminate everyday stress.”

By adequate nutrition, Coach Jim doesn’t mean eating whatever one fancies at just about any time of the day.

“As they say, you are what you eat. If you eat junk, then your body will look and move like junk with age. But if you feed your body with a well balanced healthy meal like fruits, veggies, carbs, healthy fat and protein, then your body will be a lean mean fighting machine.”

Once completed, the kiddie contestants will then proceed to the next challenge.

For the pilot episode, Kiddie Kapuso contestants Kim So Hyon and Bianca Doria of St. Paul’s Pasig will race against time to complete three water-themed challenges and collect three hidden Chubby that will take them from the scenic Pandin Lake in San Pablo to the fun-filled Splash Island in Binan, Laguna.

TV5 OFFICIAL STATEMENT

“News5 is deeply concerned by the MTRCB decision to place its Public Service program T3 under preventive suspension. We believe that this oversteps the mandate of the MTRCB, and sets it on a path could threaten the independence and freedom of the broadcast industry.  Self-regulatory mechanisms internal to the organization and instituted within the industry and to which TV5 subscribes were in place, enforced, and ultimately effective in disciplining programs host Ben, Raffy, and Erwin Tulfo.

MTRCB’s action of placing T3 under preventive suspension raises the question of what else, other than the disciplining of the anchors, the government aims to achieve.  The Tulfos have been sanctioned.  What else is there for government to resolve?  A preventive suspension suggests that the continued broadcast of the program would constitute a danger to the viewing public.

There is no such danger.  T3 was conceptualized, produced, and ultimately classified as news and public service program.  For MTRCB to even consider or suggest by its actions that  T3 has suddenly lost all its purpose and value, or worse, poses a danger to the public such that it warrants censorship, sets a dangerous tone and could potentially lead to a dangerous precedent for all news programs.”
